The Session Sisters are North County Wexford’s finest traditional group. Formed back in the mid 1990’s they play a mix of traditional, folk, classical and modern music. Players in this group have varied over the years but today we have Karen Johnston on accordion, Anne Marie Stafford on guitar, Niamh Ni Shuilleabhain on violin and Emily Redmond on violin and viola.
The girls have all studied music at 3rd level colleges around Ireland some majoring in classical music and others in traditional music. By day The Session Sisters work as teachers, conductors and freelance musicians all over Ireland but by night they set pubs and theatres alight with the sheer joy they bring to their unique, foot- tapping musical concerts and performances.
The girls perform at music festivals around Ireland each year.
The group has toured England, Greece, Denmark, Washington and Chicago performing at corporate functions and festivals. They also perform with various string quartets and traditional ensembles around Ireland for weddings and other events.
Some of the girls perform regularly on the Late Late Show with artists such as The Chieftans, The Dubliners, Westlife, Ellie Goulding, Sharon Corr, Katherine Jenkins, Charlotte Church, Chris De Burgh, Jose Carreras and many more. They have also performed with various orchestras touring Ireland and China with Sharon Shannon, Frankie Gavin, Michelle Lally and De Dannan.
